FIRST READING - Jon 3:1-10
"When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out."
A reading from the Book of Jonah
1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 2 Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and announce to it the message that I will tell you. 3 So Jonah set out for Nineveh, in accord with the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an awesomely great city; it took three days to walk through it. 4 Jonah began his journey through the city, and when he had gone only a single day’s walk announcing, “Forty days more and Nineveh shall be overthrown,” 5 the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small,[a] put on sackcloth.
6 When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 Then he had this proclaimed throughout Nineveh:[b] “By decree of the king and his nobles, no man or beast, no cattle or sheep, shall taste anything; they shall not eat, nor shall they drink water. 8 Man and beast alike must be covered with sackcloth and call loudly to God; they all must turn from their evil way and from the violence of their hands. 9 [c]Who knows? God may again repent and turn from his blazing wrath, so that we will not perish.” 10 When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Lk 10:38-42
"Martha welcomed him. Mary has chosen the better part."
✠From the Gospel according to Luke
38 As they continued their journey he entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. 39 [a]She had a sister named Mary [who] sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. 40 Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” 41 The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. 42 [b]There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

27TH TUESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Lk 10:38-42)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear people of God,
The Word of God in today’s Gospel recounts the story of Jesus visiting the home of the two sisters, Martha and Mary.
The image of Mary sitting at the Lord's feet listening to His teachings, while Martha was busy with serving. Through these two images, Jesus wants to teach humanity which action pleases God.
God reveals that listening to His words and putting them into practice is the priority action that always pleases Him. He calls everyone to be vigilant to walk on the path of light according to His teachings; do not cast the Word of God out of each person’s life, because Satan always wants to draw humanity away from God, not wanting people to listen to His teachings, so that they may lead humanity to follow their paths and instructions: which is to live in sin and the passions of the world.
Therefore, today's Word of God instructs everyone to be wise in choosing what Mary did, which is to come to God, remain with God, listen to His teachings, and put them into practice in life.
He also emphasized that we must place God above all else, and listening to God's teachings must be prioritized above all other tasks, because only by listening to and acting upon God's teachings will all deeds be accomplished well according to His will.
Conversely, if anyone does not remain with God to listen to and meditate on His teachings, our deeds will be infiltrated and attacked by Satan, leading us down their path.
God also calls everyone to come to God wisely, dedicate time to be with Him; He always awaits humanity to come to Him every moment, so that He may enlighten and instruct us on what to do; never forget God, never distance ourselves from Him, that is what God desires from everyone.
Jesus came into the world as a human being; He not only accompanied humanity but also always yearned for and called people to come to Him, listen to His teachings, and put them into practice.
As exemplified by Jesus, He is the Almighty God, yet He also spent time with God the Father, listening to God the Father's teachings, and then bringing God the Father's words to teach humanity so that people might live according to the path of light that God the Father desires to call us to.
Today's Word of God calls all humanity to look to and emulate the life of Jesus, who was always intimately united with God the Father to listen to God the Father's teachings; and the image of Mary, who knew how to spend time sitting at the Lord's feet to listen to His teachings and put them into practice in life.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
