27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Luke 17:5-10) - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
- NHA CHUA CHA
- Oct 6
- 4 min read
FIRST READING - Hb 1:2-3; 2:2-4
"The just one who is righteous because of faith shall live."
A reading from the Book of Habakkuk
2 How long, O Lord, must I cry for help[a] and you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” and you do not intervene? 3 Why do you let me see iniquity? why do you simply gaze at evil? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife and discord. 2 Then the Lord answered me and said: Write down the vision;[a] Make it plain upon tablets, so that the one who reads it may run. 3 For the vision is a witness for the appointed time, a testimony to the end; it will not disappoint. If it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late. 4 See, the rash have no integrity; but the just one who is righteous because of faith shall live.[b]
SECOND READING - 2 Tim 1:6-8, 13-14
"So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord."
A reading from the Second Letter to Timothy
6 For this reason, I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God[a] that you have through the imposition of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control. 8 So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord,[b] nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God. 13 Take as your norm the sound words that you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard this rich trust with the help of the holy Spirit that dwells within us.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Lk 17:5-10
“If you have faith!"
✠From the Gospel according to Luke
5 And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” 6 The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to [this] mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
[a] 7 “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’? 8 Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? 9 Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? 10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”

27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Luke 17:5-10)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
The Word of God in today’s Gospel teaches human beings how we are to live a life of faith with God. He calls everyone to place absolute trust in His love; do not believe half-heartedly!
As Jesus said: “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move,” and nothing will be impossible for you.
He wants to emphasize to humanity to live with absolute trust in Him, do not doubt His love. For when anyone has even a slight doubt about God's power and love, Satan will easily seize the opportunity to steal that person's faith.
Therefore, pray for steadfast faith and absolute trust in God and His teachings to humanity. Once you believe, you must live that faith by putting God's teachings into practice. God's teachings always bring good things to humanity. And to live by God's teachings, humanity must be humble, to lower oneself, not arrogant or conceited, and must not demand that God do this or that according to human reason or will.
When Jesus said, “Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?” He wants to emphasize that humans are merely useless servants when fulfilling the duties entrusted by God.
Humanity is nothing; we have no merit before God. Therefore, everyone should be humble, with self-abasement, we offer words of thanksgiving to God for helping us fulfill the duties He entrusted, and not demand that God repay us, nor compel God to act according to our own will.
In today's present life, when anyone has absolute trust in God, He calls them to:
Have the courage to live according to all that God has commanded.
Be courageous in bearing witness to God before everyone, and testify to all people that God is the Father whose love is the greatest and most exalted in this world; no one loves humanity as much as God does.
Be courageous in proclaiming, courageously bear witness to all the truth about the God of love whom God has bestowed upon all humanity, to glorify God and save souls.
Have absolute trust in God, and live out that faith; never act contrary to His holy will, for anything opposed to it does not come from God.
God will reward the Kingdom of Heaven to those who place complete trust in Him, live according to His call, and offer humble thanksgiving to God in all circumstances.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
