WEDNESDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mk 1:29-39) - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
- NHA CHUA CHA

- Jan 16
- 4 min read
“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.” (Mk 1:35)
FIRST READING - 2:14-18
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews
Since the children share in blood and Flesh,
Jesus likewise shared in them,
that through death he might destroy the one
who has the power of death, that is, the Devil,
and free those who through fear of death
had been subject to slavery all their life.
Surely he did not help angels
but rather the descendants of Abraham;
therefore, he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way,
that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God
to expiate the sins of the people.
Because he himself was tested through what he suffered,
he is able to help those who are being tested.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - 1:29-39
From the Gospel according to Mark
On leaving the synagogue
Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.
They immediately told him about her.
He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.
Then the fever left her and she waited on them.
When it was evening, after sunset,
they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons.
The whole town was gathered at the door.
He cured many who were sick with various diseases,
and he drove out many demons,
not permitting them to speak because they knew him.
Rising very early before dawn,
he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.
Simon and those who were with him pursued him
and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages
that I may preach there also.
For this purpose have I come.”
So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons
throughout the whole of Galilee.

WEDNESDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mk 1:29-39)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear people of God,
Today's Word of God introduces to all humanity the work of the Son of God who came to earth as a human: He came to the world to save humanity, to drive Satan out of the soul and body of humanity. How great is the power and might of God the Father! Because of God's infinite and boundless love for humanity, He could not bear to let Satan dominate the soul and body of humanity. For that reason, He came to the world to be with humanity, to accompany humanity, to help humanity escape from Satan's captivity. God's love has conquered hatred, conquered death, conquered all diseases, all sins caused by humanity. These deeds were demonstrated through Jesus Christ, the Son of God who came to earth as a human. He came and healed all diseases and disabilities for people. In this world, any evil that happens, if God's finger touches it, it will retreat. For example, the image of Peter's mother-in-law who had a fever and was healed by God. This image shows the power of God manifested over people, that is: when Jesus Christ approached her, lifted her up, and immediately the fever disappeared.
Besides, there are many people who, when they heard the power of God manifested in Jesus, came to ask Him to dispel all diseases and disabilities; especially those who were imprisoned by demons, controlled by Satan; He is the only One who can heal all diseases and disabilities for people.
Throughout the journey of the Son of God coming down to earth as a human, and living with humanity, it shows that: He came to the world to save people, to dispel Satan, to help people escape from their captivity. His love is covered throughout this earth; Therefore, He told His disciples: I must go to other places to bring God's love to everyone, God does not stop at any nation, showing that: God's great and immense love is infinite, no one has a love like Him.
Besides, He did not only work alone with the people around Him, but He was always closely connected with God the Father; that is: in addition to working hours with people, Jesus Christ ran to His Father to ask Him for more strength, to ask Him to be with Him, to unite with each other to help humanity escape from Satan's captivity. The proof is that while it was still dark, the people were sleeping, He ran to God the Father, and prayed to Him. This is a lesson, a shining example for all those who follow Him:
We must always be vigilant in every word and deed.
We must always run to God, closely unite with Him so that He can give us more strength, so that He can guide us and be with us. Only then will all our actions, words and deeds please God the Father and please Him.
And above all, we must turn to God so that He can guide us, so that He can direct and lead our souls and bodies to follow the path of God the Father. Only then will Satan be subdued because of our obedience and close union with God in every word and deed. God the Father calls His apostles: turn everything to God, so that He can use our souls and bodies as He wishes, that is, to become instruments for God the Father to use in the work of salvation and sanctification of people in this world.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
