“Jesus rebuked him and said, 'Quiet! Come out of him!’” (Mk 1:25)

FIRST READING - 2:5-12

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews

It was not to angels that God subjected the world to come,

of which we are speaking.

Instead, someone has testified somewhere:

What is man that you are mindful of him,

or the son of man that you care for him?

You made him for a little while lower than the angels;

you crowned him with glory and honor,

subjecting all things under his feet.

In “subjecting” all things to him,

he left nothing not “subject to him.”

Yet at present we do not see “all things subject to him,”

but we do see Jesus “crowned with glory and honor”

because he suffered death,

he who “for a little while” was made “lower than the angels,”

that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

For it was fitting that he,

for whom and through whom all things exist,

in bringing many children to glory,

should make the leader to their salvation perfect through suffering.

He who consecrates

and those who are being consecrated all have one origin.

Therefore, he is not ashamed to call them “brothers” saying:

I will proclaim your name to my brethren,

in the midst of the assembly I will praise you.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mk 1:21-28

From the Gospel according to Mark

Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers,

and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught.

The people were astonished at his teaching,

for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.

In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit;

he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?

Have you come to destroy us?

I know who you are–the Holy One of God!”

Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!”

The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him.

All were amazed and asked one another,

“What is this?

A new teaching with authority.

He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.”

His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

TUESDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mk 1:21-28)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

In today's Word of God, God reveals to mankind a powerful God. He is the Lord of the entire universe. He can do all things in this world. Besides Him, no one else has the same power and authority as He does. His power is infinite and endless.

Because of love, God came and lived with mankind from the beginning of the creation of this world. Yet it is not enough, He also took on the human form in Jesus Christ. He came to earth and lived with mankind every second and every minute, giving His Word directly to humanity.

His teachings have power and authority that no one on earth can compare to. All are expressed through His words and specifically through His deeds, which are the manifestation of His boundless love that surpasses all.

That love has left in the hearts of mankind the admiration and praise of God's people: "A new teaching with authority."

It was out of love for all mankind that He conquered death and conquered the imprisonment of Satan as they raged over the bodies and souls of humans and other creatures. Only Him alone, He is the only One whom all creatures must come to worship and glorify.

God reveals to all mankind that no matter how Satan rages in this world, or how he steals souls from God's hands, they must still be under the power of God, and must submit to His holy name.

God made known to all mankind that only God has authority over Satan. Therefore, the Word of God recounts the events in the Temple today, when the Word of God was spoken, Satan had to submit and bow down to worship Him.

God said that in today's world, Satan is causing humans to fall into many of their temptations. God the Father calls all humanity to run to the almighty God. He will expel Satan and cast out evil from the bodies and souls of humans.

And He heals all diseases and impairments for all those who come to call on the holy name of God. Especially in the era of the Holy Spirit, God the Father will use instruments that are ordinary, simple people who know how to humbly obey God. These people will cooperate in His plan of salvation, helping to cast Satan out of the bodies and souls of mankind.

God desires all humanity to be courageous, to abandon Satan's sinful lifestyle, and to return to a loving God the Father.

That love is being shown in the people that God the Father chooses and places in His plan of Sanctification.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
