“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mk 1:17)

FIRST READING - Hebrews 1:1-6

A reading from the Leter of St. Paul to the Hebrews

Brothers and sisters:

In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways

to our ancestors through the prophets;

in these last days, he spoke to us through the Son,

whom he made heir of all things

and through whom he created the universe,

who is the refulgence of his glory,

the very imprint of his being,

and who sustains all things by his mighty word.

When he had accomplished purification from sins,

he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

as far superior to the angels

as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

For to which of the angels did God ever say:

You are my Son; this day I have begotten you?

Or again:

I will be a father to him, and he shall be a Son to me?

And again, when he leads the first born into the world, he says:

Let all the angels of God worship him.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mk 1:14-20

From the Gospel according to Mark

After John had been arrested,

Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:

“This is the time of fulfillment.

The Kingdom of God is at hand.

Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,

he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;

they were fishermen.

Jesus said to them,

“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Then they left their nets and followed him.

He walked along a little farther

and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.

They too were in a boat mending their nets.

Then he called them.

So they left their father Zebedee in the boat

along with the hired men and followed him.

MONDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mk 1:14-20)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

In today's Word of God, God the Father calls all His children to listen to the teachings of Jesus Christ, calling everyone to repent, abandon the path of sin, and return to God the Father. Because the Kingdom of God has come and the Kingdom of Heaven is near, to free people from the captivity of Satan.

To enjoy happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven, God the Father wants all His children to be free from sin, to keep their bodies and souls pure, innocent, and holy, to fear and obey God, to do what God the Father has taught, not to do according to their own will, not to indulge in the temptations of Satan, desires, passions, sins, and disobedience to the will of God the Father. That is the way God the Father teaches His children that when they want to enjoy happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven when they desire to have eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven with God the Father in the future, then right here on earth, they must convert their lives, live holy lives, know how to love, know how to give, know how to submit to the will of God the Father in all places and at all times and know how to fear Him, know how to fear sin and know how to stay away from the occasion of sin. To obey Him in all places and at all times, it also depends on the providence of God the Father, the preaching of the Word of God by His disciples to all of humanity, to His children living on this earth. When the disciples are called by God the Father to enter His work in this new era, they must be determined to abandon the path of sin, determined to give up all material pleasures of this world, to follow God the Father to teach the Word of God the Father, calling people to repent, abandon the path of sin and drive Satan out of their bodies and souls that are controlling them.

God the Father also wants His disciples in this new era to follow the example of the Apostles of old, to abandon everything belonging to this world to follow God the Father to save souls for Him, to drive Satan's demons out of their brothers and sisters, to lead their brothers and sisters out of Satan's captivity, out of the darkness of sin to live in holiness, gentleness, humility, simplicity, fear and obedience to the will of God in all places and at all times.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
