“Give them some food yourselves.” (Mk 6:37)

FIRST READING - 1 Jn 4:7-10

"God is love."

A reading from the Letter of John

[a]Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. 10 In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mk 6:34-44

Khi hoá bánh ra nhiều, Đức Giê-su tỏ mình là ngôn sứ.

From the Gospel according to Mark

34 When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. 35 [a]By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already very late. 36 Dismiss them so that they can go to the surrounding farms and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37 He said to them in reply, “Give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Are we to buy two hundred days’ wages worth of food and give it to them to eat?” 38 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out they said, “Five loaves and two fish.” 39 So he gave orders to have them sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 [b]The people took their places in rows by hundreds and by fifties. 41 Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to [his] disciples to set before the people; he also divided the two fish among them all.[c] 42 They all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragments and what was left of the fish. 44 Those who ate [of the loaves] were five thousand men.

TUESDAY AFTER EPIPHANY - Gospel(Mark 6:34-44)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear people of God,

In today's Word of God, God reveals to all humanity His supreme power and the selfless love of a Gracious Father.

He observes and sees the suffering, the hunger, the worldliness, and the sinfulness of humankind. He cannot bear to abandon humanity; His love for all mankind is unparalleled. For no one possesses a love as vast and selfless as God's.

This is the image of love that God the Father wishes to call all His children to turn to.

To conquer the captivity, suffering, and death brought by Satan, God the Father calls upon all His children to place that love above all other loves, for without the love, we cannot defeat Satan!

Through the image of Jesus Christ's love for all humanity, stemming from compassion, selflessness, and mercy, He also calls upon all His children to have mercy, to have love, and to have compassion and selflessness toward every member in society, within this Church, excluding no one. For only love can erase hatred; only through love, selflessness, and compassion can people forgive, dwell together, and give.

Today's Word of God calls upon all His children to look up at Jesus Christ, who loved, forgave, and was full of compassion, caring for His flock so that they might be healthy in both soul and body.

Love has erased every barrier separating humanity from God; love will erase the hatred brought by Satan; love will erase all sin and all imperfection.

The image of Jesus performing the miracle of multiplying the loaves for the people proclaims the reign of God's love for all humanity, which is precisely the image of the sacrifice and death of Jesus Christ.

He sacrificed Himself and died to empty Himself, to bring food that nourishes the soul and body of humanity for eternal life, that is the image of Jesus Christ residing in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Today's Word of God calls upon all His children to run to Jesus in the holy Eucharist, for He is the food that nourishes the soul and body,

He is love. Ask for His love to be inscribed upon your heart; ask Him to come and erase the hatred, the division, the jealousy, the selfishness, and the sin by which Satan is holding your soul and body captive in their darkness and suffering.

Receive the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ so that He may nourish your soul and body, strengthening you in His grace and love.

Thanks be to God. Amen
