“Jesus' relatives heard of this they set out to seize Him, for they said, "He is out of his mind” (Mk 3:21)

FIRST READING - 2 Sm 1:1-4, 11-12, 19, 23-27

"Alas! the glory of Israel, slain upon your heights! How can the warriors have fallen!"

A reading from the Second Book of Samuel

After the death of Saul, David returned from his victory over the Amalekites and stayed in Ziklag two days. On the third day a man came from the field of battle, one of Saul’s people, with his garments torn and his head covered with dirt. Going to David, he fell to the ground in homage. David asked him, “Where have you come from?” He replied, “From the Israelite camp: I have escaped.” “What happened?” David said. “Tell me.” He answered that the soldiers had fled the battle and many of them had fallen and were dead; and that Saul and his son Jonathan were dead.

11 David seized his garments and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him. 12 They mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the people of the Lord and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

19 Alas! the glory of Israel,

    slain upon your heights!

How can the warriors have fallen!

23 Saul and Jonathan, beloved and dear,

separated neither in life nor death,

swifter than eagles, stronger than lions!

24 Women of Israel, weep over Saul,

who clothed you in scarlet and in finery,

covered your clothing with ornaments of gold.

25 How can the warriors have fallen

    in the thick of battle!

    Jonathan—slain upon your heights!

26 I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother!

    Most dear have you been to me;

More wondrous your love to me

    than the love of women.

27 How can the warriors have fallen,

the weapons of war have perished!

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mk 3:20-21

"For they said, “He is out of his mind.”

From the Gospel according to Mark

20 [a]He came home.[b] Again [the] crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. 21 When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (Mark 3:20-21)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

Today's Word of God wants to tell all humanity about the Son of God and how He carried out the grace of human salvation when He came down to earth as a man.

The Son of God surpasses everyone in this world in love, strength, and His power has healed all illnesses of both soul and body. The Son of God's strength has driven out Satan, and His teaching has authority over all creation in this world. It is for this reason that His relatives or those around Him claimed He was out of His mind.

Humanity could not fully comprehend God's strength and power, and thus condemned Jesus as abnormal or insane.

He did everything out of love for humanity, so it could not be said that He was out of His mind or mentally disturbed.

This is simply because human understanding is too limited and inferior compared to God's power and strength, making it impossible to grasp God's sublime mystery, impossible to understand how immense God's love for humanity is, thus leading them to condemn the Son of God as being out of His mind.

Today's Word of God also instructs humanity to know how to be modest and humble before God the Father, for how great and immense is the power and strength of God.

Humanity can never fully comprehend the ways and paths of God the Father. Therefore, in the face of all things sublime and mysterious, humanity should only know to bow down, listen, and trust in the power and strength of God, who can do all things.

In God’s love, or in all the actions of Jesus Christ toward all humanity, there is no madness, or there is no insanity as people might think, but rather love itself.

Love will bring everything to light, manifested through acts of love, through the healing of illnesses of both soul and body, and through the loving teachings that Jesus Christ Himself bestowed upon humanity. That was not evil; that was not the madness for which the people of that time were condemning Jesus Christ.

To this day, the love of God and the mystery of God continue to be manifested in the people whom God the Father has chosen and called, placing them in His work, through actions such as loving, forgiving, being modest and humble, and obeying the holy will of God above all else.

Especially in God's work of salvation, in the time of the Holy Spirit's activity, the sublime mystery of God continues to be manifested in specific individuals, by healing illnesses of both soul and body for humanity, and driving out Satan from all who come seeking God's healing.

God calls the chosen ones to imitate Jesus, to be courageous and faithful to God the Father until their last breath, obeying the holy will that God the Father instructs at every moment, helping humanity escape the captivity of Satan, who day and night seeks to steal souls from the embrace of God.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
