“Whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, "You are the Son of God.” (Mk 3:11)

FIRST READING - 1 Sm 18:6-9, 19:1-7

"My father Saul is trying to kill you."

A reading from the First Book of Samuel

At the approach of Saul and David, on David’s return after striking down the Philistine, women came out from all the cities of Israel to meet Saul the king, singing and dancing, with tambourines, joyful songs, and stringed instruments.[a] The women played and sang:

“Saul has slain his thousands,    David his tens of thousands.”

Saul was very angry and resentful of the song, for he thought: “They give David tens of thousands, but only thousands to me. All that remains for him is the kingship.” From that day on, Saul kept a jealous eye on David.

Saul discussed his intention to kill David with his son Jonathan and with all his servants. But Saul’s son Jonathan, who was very fond of David, told him: “My father Saul is trying to kill you. Therefore, please be on your guard tomorrow morning; stay out of sight and remain in hiding. I, however, will go out and stand beside my father in the countryside where you are, and will speak to him about you. If I learn anything, I will let you know.”

Jonathan then spoke well of David to his father Saul, telling him: “The king should not harm his servant David. He has not harmed you, but has helped you very much by his deeds.[a] When he took his life in his hands and killed the Philistine, and the Lord won a great victory for all Israel, you were glad to see it. Why, then, should you become guilty of shedding innocent blood by killing David without cause?” Saul heeded Jonathan’s plea and swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.” So Jonathan summoned David and repeated the whole conversation to him. He then brought David to Saul, and David served him as before.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mk 3:7-12

"Whenever unclean spirits saw him they would shout, “You are the Son of God.” He warned them sternly not to make him known."

From the Gospel according to Mark

[a]Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people [followed] from Galilee and from Judea. Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. 10 He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. 11 [b]And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, “You are the Son of God.” 12 He warned them sternly not to make him known.

2nd THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mark 3:7-12)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear people of God,

In today's Word of God, God reveals His authority to all humanity, making known the power and strength of God.

God is the absolutely unparalleled Almighty One. He heals every sickness and infirmity in this world. He casts out Satan from humanity; wherever He goes, they must submit. He is the One who brings eternal life to mankind.

All the reputation of Jesus Christ, the Only Son of God the Father, has been demonstrated among mankind, has been spread throughout all humanity.

In the world today, God the Father calls all His children to believe in the absolute power of God the Father, for only from Him can eternal life be brought to mankind. Only in Him can sickness and infirmity be healed, both in soul and body. Only He has authority over Satan, who is raging against mankind.

Therefore, children of God, stand up courageously, abandon the path of darkness, and step onto the path of light of God the Father, which is His very Word. The Word came through Jesus Christ incarnate as man. The Word has taught for over two thousand years; the Word brings eternal life to mankind.

Everyone must be vigilant against the cunning temptations of Satan, for Satan brings eternal death, while God is the opposite, for He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He will grant eternal life to mankind in His Kingdom.

Contemplating Jesus Christ through His actions of healing all sickness and infirmity and casting out Satan. With just one word from Him, Satan must submit; what then is man? Therefore, know humility, humble yourselves, and return to God.

He will heal all sickness and infirmity, just as Jesus Christ proclaimed: whoever calls upon His holy name, He will show mercy and grant the grace of salvation, and He will be with them when they invite Him into their heart.

Through today's Gospel reading, God the Father calls all His children to follow the example of Jesus Christ, the One who obeyed God the Father in all places and at all times; He is infinite love and mercy. Mankind must treat their fellow human beings as God has shown mercy to them.

Become children of God, fear Him above all things, and imitate His example: sacrificing, renouncing, loving, and serving God the Father and neighbors selflessly.

Thanks be to God. Amen
