SATURDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mk 2:13-17) - THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
- NHA CHUA CHA

- Jan 19
- 3 min read
“I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.” (Mk 2:17)
FIRST READING - 4:12-16
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews
The word of God is living and effective,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
penetrating even between soul and spirit,
joints and marrow,
and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.
No creature is concealed from him,
but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him
to whom we must render an account.
Since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God,
let us hold fast to our confession.
For we do not have a high priest
who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but one who has similarly been tested in every way,
yet without sin.
So let us confidently approach the throne of grace
to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mark 2:13-17
From the Gospel according to Mark
Jesus went out along the sea.
All the crowd came to him and he taught them.
As he passed by, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus,
sitting at the customs post.
Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”
And he got up and followed Jesus.
While he was at table in his house,
many tax collectors and sinners sat with Jesus and his disciples;
for there were many who followed him.
Some scribes who were Pharisees saw that Jesus was eating with sinners
and tax collectors and said to his disciples,
“Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus heard this and said to them,
“Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

SATURDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mk 2:13-17)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
In today's Word of God, God continues to teach all humanity about God's immense love.
God comes to the world to save humankind, to free humanity from the captivity of Satan. Therefore, throughout His journey, He always teaches, saves, and heals all the diseases and disabilities that people are suffering from.
God is the Father of humanity, the only Father that we have. He never abandoned any human soul or creature; but people listened to the fallen angelic creature rebel against God the Father, by using the freedom that God gave, straying away from God's love.
God wants humanity to awaken, to come to the heart of God the Father so that He can soothe all the pain that humans are facing.
That pain is brought on by the world, and due to the weakness of mankind who have fallen into the traps of Satan, into the great temptations of passions and sins.
That is why God tells everyone that He came to the world to save sinners and to heal the sick, but He did not come to the world to save the righteous or the healthy, because the healthy people in this world do not need God.
God wants to teach everyone to be vigilant.
In front of God the Father, no one is righteous, no one is healthy.
God the Father calls on mankind to know to humble and self-abasement; and to recognize our status as weak, lowly, and sinful human beings. To recognize ourselves as a sick person who needs to run to God the Father's love and mercy. We need to listen to His teachings and put them into practice. Do not go down the path of Satan's pride, do not go down the path of darkness anymore!
Come out into the light, walk on the path of love that God the Father has called everyone to, that is to love God above all things and to love others as yourself.
No one is righteous before God the Father. All are sinners. God the Father calls all mankind to run to God. He is the God of love, the God of mercy. He does not exclude anyone when they know how to rely on the heart and the mercy of God the Father.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
