FIRST READING - 5:14-21
A reading from the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians
Brothers and sisters:
The love of Christ impels us,
once we have come to the conviction that one died for all;
therefore, all have died.
He indeed died for all,
so that those who live might no longer live for themselves
but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
Consequently, from now on we regard no one according to the flesh;
even if we once knew Christ according to the flesh,
yet now we know him so no longer.
So whoever is in Christ is a new creation:
the old things have passed away;
behold, new things have come.
And all this is from God,
who has reconciled us to himself through Christ
and given us the ministry of reconciliation,
namely, God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ,
not counting their trespasses against them
and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
So we are ambassadors for Christ,
as if God were appealing through us.
We implore you on behalf of Christ,
be reconciled to God.
For our sake he made him to be sin who did not know sin,
so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - 5:33-37
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Jesus said to his disciples:
"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
Do not take a false oath,
but make good to the Lord all that you vow.
But I say to you, do not swear at all;
not by heaven, for it is God's throne;
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;
nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Do not swear by your head,
for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.'
Anything more is from the Evil One."

SATURDAY OF THE 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mt 5:33-37)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
In today's Word of God, God the Father teaches all mankind that He is the One who sees everything. In this world, God the Father is the One who shepherds, protects, preserves, and shelters all creatures and all things that He has created. Therefore, people must remember: nothing can escape God the Father—nothing can be hidden from Him.
God the Father warns people to be alert to the temptations of Satan. Though Satan is under the powerful hand of God the Father, they disobeyed God's will and did not follow His teachings. Therefore, God the Father granted them freedom, and Satan used that freedom to tempt the children of men—the creatures whom God the Father created.
How does Satan tempt people?
Because Satan disobeyed and opposed the will of God the Father through deceitful actions, he seeks every way to tempt mankind to oppose God’s will by inciting them to disobey, to live falsely, and to be untruthful to God the Father and to their brothers and sisters. Furthermore, Satan tempts mankind to fall into lustful passions, which are sins that displease God the Father.
That is why God the Father earnestly invites people to abandon their dark ways and step into His light. This means following the path of justice, charity, and love—to walk on the path taught by the Word of God—so that they may receive eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven.
The specific teachings of God the Father are as follows:
People should stay away from the path of fornication, for through it, Satan seeks to dominate humanity. Through fornication, people become disobedient to the will of God the Father and are drawn into the passion of sin. As a result, they fall into hatred and the darkness of Satan. They become two-faced and dishonest with each other, deceiving one another, causing division and conflict, even leading to violence and death. This is the success of Satan’s temptation—when people become trapped in sin and enslaved by it. Ultimately, they grow disrespectful and disobedient toward God the Father, attempting to deceive and hide from Him.
But God the Father calls everyone to remember one thing: He knows everything about each person—from soul to body. He knows all thoughts, actions, words, and intentions; nothing can be hidden from Him. Therefore, God the Father invites all people to step out of darkness and into His light, to live in the truth of His Word. He calls us to fear Him, to love Him above all things, and to love one another. In doing so, we will not fall into Satan’s trap, and we will escape the fate of eternal death.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
