“Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?” (Mk 2;19)

FIRST READING - Heb 5:1-10

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews

Brothers and sisters:

Every high priest is taken from among men

and made their representative before God,

to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.

He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring,

for he himself is beset by weakness

and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself

as well as for the people.

No one takes this honor upon himself

but only when called by God,

just as Aaron was.

In the same way,

it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest,

but rather the one who said to him:

You are my Son:

this day I have begotten you;

just as he says in another place,

You are a priest forever

according to the order of Melchizedek.

In the days when he was in the Flesh,

he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears

to the one who was able to save him from death,

and he was heard because of his reverence.

Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered;

and when he was made perfect,

he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mk 2:18-22

From the Gospel according to Mark

The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were accustomed to fast.

People came to Jesus and objected,

"Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast,

but your disciples do not fast?"

Jesus answered them,

"Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?

As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.

But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,

and then they will fast on that day.

No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak.

If he does, its fullness pulls away,

the new from the old, and the tear gets worse.

Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.

Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins,

and both the wine and the skins are ruined.

Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins."

MONDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mk 2:18-22)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

Today's Word of God, God tells all mankind to fear God because He is Love, and He bestows all blessings on mankind.

Humankind should do all things to please God the Father. God the Father does not want humans to live hypocritically, but rather to live truly in both body and soul.

It is God the Father's desire for humanity to love Him truly, expressed from the inside out, not just with words on our lips.

Today, God the Father reminds His children not to be jealous, to not compete with one another, and to not judge each other.

Be sincere with one another.

Sincerity comes from God's love, from sincere love for our brothers and sisters that comes from the influence of the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, it would be hypocrisy!

The root of hypocrisy is Satan, who is dishonest, jealous, rivalrous, condemning, and criticism of one another.

It is God the Father's desire for all His children in this world, to live in harmony and love one another at all times and in all places.

To Love our fellow human beings as ourselves, as Jesus Christ calls us to do: "Love God the Father above all things and love our brothers and sisters."

Jesus Christ Himself taught that God the Father desires that His children do not dispute, be jealous of, compete, or be envious of one another, but rather show tolerance and unity with one another.

For wherever God is present, there is peace and happiness spread.

As in the time of Jesus Christ, the Only Son of God the Father came to earth to become human, He came to love and accompany humanity.

He is the Messiah, the One who brings mankind the grace of liberation from sin. But humanity did not acknowledge that He is life, He is the source of endless happiness.

Humans do not see that where there is the presence of the Only Son of God the Father among mankind, there will be no more suffering, no more death.

In order to have God dwell in our hearts, we must eliminate all evil, sinful, and wicked acts.

God the Father wants to remind mankind to turn to God the Father for true happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Do all things to have eternal life, do all good things to have God the Father in our hearts.

Thanks be to God. Amen
