“Jesus said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” (Mk 6:31)

FIRST READING - 1 Kgs 3:4-13

"Give your servant, therefore, a listening heart to judge your people."

A reading from the First Book of Kings

The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, because that was the great high place. Upon its altar Solomon sacrificed a thousand burnt offerings. In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said: Whatever you ask I shall give you. Solomon answered: “You have shown great kindness to your servant, David my father, because he walked before you with fidelity, justice, and an upright heart; and you have continued this great kindness toward him today, giving him a son to sit upon his throne. Now, Lord, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed David my father; but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act— I, your servant, among the people you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant, therefore, a listening heart to judge your people and to distinguish between good and evil. For who is able to give judgment for this vast people of yours?”

10 The Lord was pleased by Solomon’s request. 11 So God said to him: Because you asked for this—you did not ask for a long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor for the life of your enemies—but you asked for discernment to know what is right— 12 I now do as you request. I give you a heart so wise and discerning that there has never been anyone like you until now, nor after you will there be anyone to equal you. 13 In addition, I give you what you have not asked for: I give you such riches and glory that among kings there will be no one like you all your days.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Mk 6:30-34

"They were like sheep without a shepherd."

From the Gospel according to Mark

30 The apostles[a] gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. 31 [b]He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. 32 So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. 33 People saw them leaving and many came to know about it. They hastened there on foot from all the towns and arrived at the place before them.

34 When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

4TH SATURDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mark 6:30-34)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear people of God,

The Word of God in today's Gospel says that when Jesus was with His disciples, He saw a crowd of people like sheep without a shepherd, and He felt compassion for them.

God showed His disciples that after doing anything, take time to rest next to God to ask Him for more strength, ask Him for support, ask Him to teach us what is lacking that we have not been able to do. He also emphasized to people that if He does not give grace, then each person’s own strength and ability will not be able to do anything for God.

That's why He calls upon everyone to be modest and humble before God the Father and before our brothers and sisters.

God the Father gave the disciples the mission to go forth and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven, to call people to repentance, and to cast out demons and heal the sick and sinners.

If those who go forth and cannot do what God the Father instructs, then Satan will not be afraid or subdued; thus, we won't be able to help our brothers and sisters.

Therefore, after each time we go forth to do work for God the Father, find every way to run to God, stay with Him, be alone with Him, let Him strengthen us, let Him give us teaching and advice, and be in silence next to Him, listen to His Word, and be determined to put it into practice.

God also lets all humanity know how vast and deep God's mercy is when He sees the flock of helpless sheep without a shepherd. That flock is the children of God who have been abandoned, who are gradually tempted by Satan to fall into their hands.

Because of God's boundless heart, He shows compassion to the flock of sheep who are wandering, helpless, injured and suffering immensely.

He felt compassion for the sinful souls, the souls that were gradually drifting away from God and falling into the hands of Satan. Only God the Father understands every thought, word, and action of human, and sees how much humanity is in need of His love and mercy.

Through this, God the Father desires to calls upon everyone in the world today, that:

  • Each person should have a genuine loving heart, always know how to feel compassion for our brothers and sisters; don't be insensitive, don't be indifferent to the hardships and suffering of our fellow human beings; open our hearts and sacrifice ourselves to love, support, share, and lead our brothers and sisters back to God the Father.

  • we must have a genuine loving heart, a sympathetic and forgiving heart to sympathize with the weaknesses of our brothers and sisters, with the sufferings of our fellow brothers and sisters who are controlled by Satan, and are writhing in the terrible torments brought by Satan.

  • God the Father calls upon His apostles in a special way to sacrifice ourselves to go forth and save our brothers and sisters from the captivity of Satan, to bring the Word of God to all humanity, namely both the Eternal Word in the Bible and the Real Present Word in the new age are one.

This is a call to all humanity:

Humanity should have mercy on all creatures, as God has mercy on us.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
