“He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones, but lifted up the lowly.” (Lk 1:52)

FIRST READING - 1 Sm 1:24-28

"Now I, in turn, give him to the Lord; he shall be dedicated to the Lord."

A reading from the Book of Samuel

24 Once he was weaned, she brought him up with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah[a] of flour, and a skin of wine, and presented him at the house of the Lord in Shiloh. 25 After they had slaughtered the bull, they brought the child to Eli. 26 Then Hannah spoke up: “Excuse me, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here near you, praying to the Lord. 27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted my request. 28 Now I, in turn, give him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he shall be dedicated to the Lord.” Then they worshiped there before the Lord.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Lk 1:46-56

"The Mighty One has done great things for me."

From the Gospel according to Luke

46 And Mary said:[a]

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;47

my spirit rejoices in God my savior.

48 For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness;

behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.

49 The Mighty One has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

50 His mercy is from age to age

to those who fear him.

51 He has shown might with his arm,

dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.

52 He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones

but lifted up the lowly.

53 The hungry he has filled with good things;

the rich he has sent away empty.

54 He has helped Israel his servant,

remembering his mercy,

55 according to his promise to our fathers,

to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

56 Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.

4th MONDAY OF ADVENT - GospeL (Luke 1:46-56)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear people of God,

Today’s Word of God, God lets all humanity know that the Magnificat, which is a prayer of praise offered by the Blessed Virgin Mary to God the Father, is exceedingly beautiful, and that God the Father is pleased with her praise.

Blessed Mary is the one who glorifies and praises God, for she dedicated her entire life to glorifying, praising, and extolling God.

God saw clearly her kind, gentle, and humble heart. She had absolute faith in God's power and placed God above all things. God the Father chose the Blessed Mother as a woman to collaborate in God's plan of salvation, which is to conceive the Most High Son of God.

God lets humanity know that the Blessed Mother's very life is the most beautiful hymn of praise offered to God.

The praise of the Magnificat reflects the Blessed Mother's true self; she acknowledged herself as a servant, the handmaid of God. She glorified God through her humility, self-abasement, absolute faith in the Most High God, and through the obedience, poverty, simplicity, humility, and purity that she offered to God.

She always acknowledged her status as the lowest and most humble servant; it was because of this humility that she obeyed the holy will of God the Father, fulfilled the duty of conceiving the Son of God, and collaborated in God's plan to proclaim the Gospel until her last breath.

God desires to calls upon today’s humanity to look up to the example of the Blessed Mother Mary to use our entire life to sing praises, glorify God, and following her example of always acknowledge our sinful, weak, and lowly status before God, so that we may always know how to listen to and obey God with absolute trust, and have faith in the power of the Most High God, for He can do all things in this world.

God calls upon humanity to have absolute faith in His love; He is never jealous or selfish towards humanity, but always a God of infinite love, kindness, and mercy.

God always opens His arms to welcome all His children who know to turn away from the path of sin and return to God the Father, for only in God is there joy, happiness, and peace; there is no suffering nor death.

Today, God reveals that because the Blessed Mother joyfully and obediently followed the holy will of God the Father, she is praised by God the Father as a woman full of grace, a servant who pleases God, and the one chosen by God the Father to be the Mother of the Most High Son of God.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
