“They can no longer die, for they are like angels.” (Lk 20:36)
FIRST READING - Rv 11:4-12
A reading from the Book of Revelation
I, John, heard a voice from heaven speak to me:
Here are my two witnesses:
These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands
that stand before the Lord of the earth.
If anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouths
and devours their enemies.
In this way, anyone wanting to harm them is sure to be slain.
They have the power to close up the sky
so that no rain can fall during the time of their prophesying.
They also have power to turn water into blood
and to afflict the earth with any plague as often as they wish.
When they have finished their testimony,
the beast that comes up from the abyss
will wage war against them and conquer them and kill them.
Their corpses will lie in the main street of the great city,
which has the symbolic names “Sodom” and “Egypt,”
where indeed their Lord was crucified.
Those from every people, tribe, tongue, and nation
will gaze on their corpses for three and a half days,
and they will not allow their corpses to be buried.
The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them
and be glad and exchange gifts
because these two prophets tormented the inhabitants of the earth.
But after the three and a half days,
a breath of life from God entered them.
When they stood on their feet, great fear fell on those who saw them.
Then they heard a loud voice from heaven say to them, “Come up here.”
So they went up to heaven in a cloud as their enemies looked on.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Lk 20:27-40
From the Gospel according to Luke
Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection,
came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying,
“Teacher, Moses wrote for us,
If someone’s brother dies leaving a wife but no child,
his brother must take the wife
and raise up descendants for his brother.
Now there were seven brothers;
the first married a woman but died childless.
Then the second and the third married her,
and likewise all the seven died childless.
Finally the woman also died.
Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be?
For all seven had been married to her.”
Jesus said to them,
“The children of this age marry and remarry;
but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age
and to the resurrection of the dead
neither marry nor are given in marriage.
They can no longer die,
for they are like angels;
and they are the children of God
because they are the ones who will rise.
That the dead will rise
even Moses made known in the passage about the bush,
when he called ‘Lord’
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;
and he is not God of the dead, but of the living,
for to him all are alive.”
Some of the scribes said in reply,
“Teacher, you have answered well.”
And they no longer dared to ask him anything.

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
In the Word of God today, God lets all humanity know about a supernatural life, which is the life of the eternal Kingdom of Heaven in the future.
God came to earth as a human to save human souls from the captivity of Satan, and from eternal death. Therefore, God calls everyone to stay away from all sins, stay away from worldly thoughts, and stay away from the temptations of Satan. God knows Satan's plan. They will find every way to snatch human souls from the loving arms of God, and they will take advantage of the freedom that God gives to people to attack His work of salvation.
The Word of God today calls everyone to be vigilant before their words, actions, and deeds; Be awake to the teachings of other religions, because only God is the only God who brings happiness, brings eternal life to people, and brings eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven in the future. God invites everyone not to fall into Satan's traps anymore, and not to follow bad habits due to Satan's temptations about the actions of religions that do not come from the truth of God. God invites people to live according to the truth and reality, which is to believe in the eternal life of the Kingdom of Heaven in the future. To believe in eternal life means that when people leave this world, their souls will live happily in the Kingdom of Heaven, which means living like the angels, and the angels always enjoy the light and spirit of God to enlighten and nourish.
Therefore, in today's Word of God, God teaches everyone to always aim for eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven in the future, because only the eternal Kingdom of Heaven can bring happiness to people, and that is also the ultimate goal of people when living in this world. God does not want people to fall into Satan's trap, so He personally humbled Himself to become a human to accompany and be with people. Through the death and resurrection of the Son of God, He initiated new life for humanity. It is through His death and resurrection that He redeems the soul and body of people when they are resurrected on the last day, which is the day of the Lord's second coming, the day the Son of God comes in glory.
God also invites everyone to have absolute trust in His love, and absolute trust in the afterlife, that people will be resurrected when God allows that soul to enjoy happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven. Today, God shows people that in the Kingdom of Heaven, there is no marriage, no children, and no material life like people live on earth.
The life of the Kingdom of Heaven is an eternal supernatural life, where people enjoy the light and spirit of God, and people will live like angels who are always waiting, praising God day and night.
