“The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile, were seeking to put him to death.” (Lk 19:47)

FIRST READING - RV 10:8-11

A reading from the Book of Revelation

I, John, heard a voice from heaven speak to me.

Then the voice spoke to me and said:

“Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel

who is standing on the sea and on the land.”

So I went up to the angel and told him to give me the small scroll.

He said to me, “Take and swallow it.

It will turn your stomach sour,

but in your mouth it will taste as sweet as honey.”

I took the small scroll from the angel’s hand and swallowed it.

In my mouth it was like sweet honey,

but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour.

Then someone said to me, “You must prophesy again

about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - LK 19:45-48

From the Gospel according to Luke

Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out

those who were selling things, saying to them,

“It is written,

My house shall be a house of prayer,

but you have made it a den of thieves.”

And every day he was teaching in the temple area.

The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile,

were seeking to put him to death,

but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose

because all the people were hanging on his words.

FRIDAY OF THE THIRTY-THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME-Gospel (Lk 19:45-48)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYON

The Dear People of God,

The Gospel of today recounts Jesus entering the Temple. He saw people who were passionate about material things, worshipping money, and fame, and then forgetting that God is the highest of all things.

God was angry at these evil acts. He calls on everyone to turn to our own Temple where God resides; to always be vigilant before our thoughts, words, or actions, so that they do not turn the Temple of the Holy Spirit, which is our own soul, impure and sinful, "turning it into a den of thieves," because that is not pleasing to God.

God always wants good things for people. He calls people to be awake and live according to what God teaches so that our souls and bodies can spread love and the heart of God to others.

Furthermore, the Word of God in today's Gospel also tells about Jesus publicly teaching in the temple. His Words filled with love, with "new doctrine, made the people fascinated and His teaching has authority unlike those of the scribes and Pharisees."

It is for this reason that the Word offended the Pharisees and the scribes. As a result of their jealousy, selfishness, greed, envy, hatred, anger, and resentment, Satan covered their eyes and ears, preventing them from recognizing Jesus as the Savior among mankind.

Because they did not love God the Father with all their hearts, souls, and minds, did not love their brothers and sisters, did not listen to God the Father's Word, and let their hearts be burdened by money, status, and worldly fame.

Today's Word of God teaches us to listen to the Word of God the Father and put it into practice. Stay close to His Word; let His Word penetrate deeply into our souls and minds. We must put His Word above all things so that from there we can follow the commandments that God the Father teaches. Then Satan, in ourselves and others will be defeated.

God calls on humanity to aim for eternal life, not to fall into Satan's traps, not to make the temple of our souls dirty, impure, and sinful anymore, but to keep our souls clean, pure, and worthy to welcome the Holy Spirit into.

To summarize, today's Word of God calls on all humanity to:

Listen to the Word of God and put it into practice. We must not listen to and allow the jealousy, hatred, and selfishness of the world to obscure the Word sown in our souls.

We must keep our souls, our temple, clean and pure so that God can always reign.

The human body is the image of God, so He wants us to protect and keep our bodies pure, not allowing worldly things to interfere and defile the body so that from there the devil can penetrate deep into the soul and obscure the image of God, which is not pleasing to God.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
