“Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine?” (Lk 17:17)

FIRST READING - Ti 3:1-7

A reading from the Letter to Timothy

Beloved:

Remind them to be under the control of magistrates and authorities,

to be obedient, to be open to every good enterprise.

They are to slander no one, to be peaceable, considerate,

exercising all graciousness toward everyone.

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deluded,

slaves to various desires and pleasures,

living in malice and envy,

hateful ourselves and hating one another.

But when the kindness and generous love

of God our savior appeared,

not because of any righteous deeds we had done

but because of his mercy,

he saved us through the bath of rebirth

and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

whom he richly poured out on us

through Jesus Christ our savior,

so that we might be justified by his grace

and become heirs in hope of eternal life.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Lk 17:11-19

From the Gospel according to Luke

As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem,

he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.

As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him.

They stood at a distance from him and raised their voice, saying,

“Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!”

And when he saw them, he said,

“Go show yourselves to the priests.”

As they were going they were cleansed.

And one of them, realizing he had been healed,

returned, glorifying God in a loud voice;

and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.

He was a Samaritan.

Jesus said in reply,

“Ten were cleansed, were they not?

Where are the other nine?

Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?”

Then he said to him, “Stand up and go;

your faith has saved you.”

32ND WEDNESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Lk 17:11-19)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

   Dear People of God,

In today's Word of God, God the Father calls on everyone to give thanks to God the Father in all places and at all times. Because from the moment we are born into this world, it is a gift that God the Father gives freely. Therefore, throughout a person's life, there is always a series of graces.

Thus, God the Father calls for everyone to live in a spirit of gratitude to God the Father in all circumstances, as everyone is loved, preserved, protected, and given birth to this world by Him.

It is a blessing for mankind because no one is born outside the will of God the Father.

Thus, God the Father calls on everyone to always live in a spirit of gratitude to Him and to be happy because He has lovingly chosen and called us to be born into this world, where we can experience the happiness of love with God the Father and all our fellow human beings.

Furthermore, God the Father wills us to participate in His plan of salvation and in His plan to build this world perfectly in harmony with His purposes.

The Word of God teaches humanity to always live in a spirit of gratitude to God the Father in all circumstances, not just when He heals our bodies and souls, and then we return to thank Him for the healing.

In addition, God the Father calls on humanity to be alert to the temptations of Satan, because they do not want people to come close to God the Father to thank Him or worship Him or to put into practice His teachings.

Like the image of the ten lepers in today's Gospel who were healed of leprosy by God the Father, but nine of them did not return to thank God the Father because Satan covered their eyes and ears, not recognizing the grace that God had just given them, and Satan continued to tempt them to be arrogant, thinking that they were healed of their illness due to their own merits, by their own strength, so that they forgot the presence of a Jesus who passed through their lives and healed their serious illness, allowing them to integrate into community life.

As a result of that, God the Father teaches humankind to be alert to Satan's temptations. They are very sophisticated at making humanity forget to thank God, forget God.

Therefore, we should always remember that no matter what suffering, no matter what trials, no matter what condemnation, no matter what persecution, and no matter what success or failure, always give thanks to God the Father. We must use all of our beings, souls, and minds to sing a song of praise and thanksgiving to Him because that is what pleases Him.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
