FIRST READING - 19:15-29
A reading from the Book of Genesis
As dawn was breaking, the angels urged Lot on, saying, "On your way!
Take with you your wife and your two daughters who are here,
or you will be swept away in the punishment of Sodom."
When he hesitated, the men, by the LORD's mercy,
seized his hand and the hands of his wife and his two daughters
and led them to safety outside the city.
As soon as they had been brought outside, he was told:
"Flee for your life!
Don't look back or stop anywhere on the Plain.
Get off to the hills at once, or you will be swept away."
"Oh, no, my lord!" Lot replied,
"You have already thought enough of your servant
to do me the great kindness of intervening to save my life.
But I cannot flee to the hills to keep the disaster from overtaking me,
and so I shall die.
Look, this town ahead is near enough to escape to.
It's only a small place.
Let me flee there–it's a small place, is it not?–
that my life may be saved."
"Well, then," he replied,
"I will also grant you the favor you now ask.
I will not overthrow the town you speak of.
Hurry, escape there!
I cannot do anything until you arrive there."
That is why the town is called Zoar.
The sun was just rising over the earth as Lot arrived in Zoar;
at the same time the LORD rained down sulphurous fire
upon Sodom and Gomorrah
from the LORD out of heaven.
He overthrew those cities and the whole Plain,
together with the inhabitants of the cities
and the produce of the soil.
But Lot's wife looked back, and she was turned into a pillar of salt.
Early the next morning Abraham went to the place
where he had stood in the LORD's presence.
As he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah
and the whole region of the Plain,
he saw dense smoke over the land rising like fumes from a furnace.
Thus it came to pass: when God destroyed the Cities of the Plain,
he was mindful of Abraham by sending Lot away from the upheaval
by which God overthrew the cities where Lot had been living.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - 8:23-27
From the Gospel according to Matthew
As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him.
Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea,
so that the boat was being swamped by waves;
but he was asleep.
They came and woke him, saying,
"Lord, save us! We are perishing!"
He said to them, "Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?"
Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea,
and there was great calm.
The men were amazed and said, "What sort of man is this,
whom even the winds and the sea obey?"

TUESDAY OF THE THIRTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Mt 8:23-27)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
In today’s Word of God: God the Father manifests His love and power for all mankind to see, so that people may always know to seek and trust in Him. There is no love as great as the love of God the Father. Only God the Father brings true happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven and grants eternal life to humanity. The world is always in opposition to God-it offers only false peace and fleeting happiness that passes away in this life.
Today’s Word of God invites His children to be alert to the temptations of Satan. When facing difficulties and challenges, run to the God of love. He firmly affirms that He is the God of love-the true God. He is life, happiness, and peace. He is always present and accompanies His children everywhere and at all times.
Although people cannot see God with their physical eyes, let us have absolute faith that He is always with us. Let us open our mouths and call upon the power of God:
“Please heal my soul and body; please protect my soul and body so that they may be safe in Your hands.”
Today’s Word of God reminds us of the time when the apostles were on the boat. A great storm and strong waves came, and they were terrified, not knowing how to escape their fear. It was the Holy Spirit who enlightened the apostles to run and call upon their Master, Jesus Christ:
"Lord, save us! We are perishing!"
Their cry for help reached Jesus, who rose up and commanded the wind and sea to be still-and the boat was at peace.
Likewise, in today’s world, human beings are facing many difficulties, challenges, and sufferings. He calls on everyone to open their hearts and pray to God the Father:
“Please help me escape from these difficulties and challenges - from the imprisonment of Satan, from the circle of sin and ignorance. Please give my soul peace, happiness, and allow me to enjoy the light and love of God the Father.”
This is the cooperation between humanity and God: to open our hearts and unite closely with Him through prayer, to receive the Word of God the Father, and to put it into practice. Today’s Word of God advises His children: Practice exactly as God the Father teaches, and He will always accompany, protect, shelter, and defend His beloved children. Trust absolutely that He will grant all blessings when His children open their hearts, receive His Word, and call upon His mercy.
In this earthly life, when you encounter suffering, difficulties, challenges, or any misfortune, unite closely with God the Father through prayer. He will protect you and give you a peaceful and happy life.
Therefore, do not worry. Do not retreat before life’s storms and challenges. Do not be afraid of any power of the world, the devil, or the flesh. Be courageous and brave in protecting the plan of God-through a life of witness and a firm determination to remain faithful to God the Father, trusting absolutely in His love. For truly, no one has greater power than God the Father of all humanity.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
