FIRST READING - Acts 16:1-10

"Come over to Macedonia and help us."

A reading from the Book of the Acts of the Apostles

He reached [also] Derbe and Lystra where there was a disciple named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek. The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke highly of him, and Paul wanted him to come along with him. On account of the Jews of that region, Paul had him circumcised,[a] for they all knew that his father was a Greek. As they traveled from city to city, they handed on to the people for observance the decisions reached by the apostles and presbyters in Jerusalem. Day after day the churches grew stronger in faith and increased in number.

They traveled through the Phrygian and Galatian territory because they had been prevented by the holy Spirit from preaching the message in the province of Asia. When they came to Mysia, they tried to go on into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus[b] did not allow them, so they crossed through Mysia and came down to Troas. During [the] night Paul had a vision. A Macedonian stood before him and implored him with these words, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 When he had seen the vision, we[c] sought passage to Macedonia at once, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Jn 15:18-21

"You do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world."

From the Gospel according to John

18 “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. 20 Remember the word I spoke to you,[a] ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,[b] because they do not know the one who sent me.

SATURDAY FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER - Gospel (John 15:18-21)

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE

Dear People of God,

In today's Word of God, the Lord calls upon all His children to look to the example of Jesus Christ, who sacrificed Himself, died, and rose again to save all humanity.

God lets His children of light know that when He came into the world as man to bring salvation and to show His love for humanity, He was condemned, hated, and rejected by the world.

He did nothing wrong, so why was He condemned, rejected, and put to death?

This was due to the envy and hatred of Satan and the world. They do not want God to love humanity, and they do not want people to have eternal life with God the Father. Therefore, they seek every way to reject and kill; but the love of God always triumphs over death, and always overcomes the hatred, envy, and jealousy of Satan and the world.

This is what God the Father teaches humanity:

  • Those who follow the light of God the Father will also have to suffer, be condemned, and be rejected by the world. This is what God the Father teaches humanity beforehand, so that when encountering difficulties and trials, one should trust absolutely and remain faithful to God the Father.

  • Look to the example of Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, who died hanging on the cross, so that from there, people may courageously walk the path of light and truth to come to God the Father.

  • God the Father is the only Teacher; all who listen to and carry out His teachings will overcome temptation and defeat the attacks of Satan.

  • Let love overcome hatred, and let love shatter death. Carry out the commandment of love to which God invites humanity: to love God above all things and to love your neighbor as yourself. Only by living in this way can one overcome the world and conquer death.

God the Father also invites His children to be courageous and steadfast in walking in the work of God the Father, remaining faithful, obedient, and following His holy will, so that you may be saved by God the Father and granted eternal life, and through this, Satan will be forced to retreat.

He also calls upon all who are walking in the work of God the Father in this new era: listen to the teachings of God the Father and put them into practice, rather than just listening and ignoring them.

For the Word of God always has the power to help people escape difficulties, trials, and the persecution that the world seeks to impose through rejection and condemnation.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
