FIRST READING - Dn 7:9-10,13-14
"His clothing was white as snow."
A reading from the Book of Daniel
9 [a]As I watched,
Thrones were set up and the Ancient of Days took his throne. His clothing was white as snow, the hair on his head like pure wool; His throne was flames of fire, with wheels of burning fire.10 A river of fire surged forth, flowing from where he sat; Thousands upon thousands were ministering to him, and myriads upon myriads stood before him.
The court was convened, and the books were opened.
13 As the visions during the night continued, I saw coming with the clouds of heaven
One like a son of man. [a]When he reached the Ancient of Days and was presented before him, 14 He received dominion, splendor, and kingship; all nations, peoples and tongues will serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, his kingship, one that shall not be destroyed.
SECOND READING - 2 Pt 1:16-19
“This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”
A reading from the Second Letter of Peter
16 We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming[a] of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father[b] when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory, “This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” 18 We[c] ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Lk 9:28b-36
"While he was praying his face changed in appearance."
✠From the Gospel according to Luke
28 About eight days after he said this, he took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray.[a] 29 While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. 30 And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,[b] 31 [c]who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory[d] and the two men standing with him. 33 As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents,[e] one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. 34 [f]While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. 35 [g]Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” 36 After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time[h] tell anyone what they had seen.

FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD - Gospel (Luke 9:28b-36)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
The Word of God in today's Gospel recounts the event of Jesus' Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, accompanied by the appearance of Moses and Elijah. He wanted to reveal to everyone the glorious power of the Holy Trinity, always present and perfectly united.
The image of Jesus transfigured on Mount Tabor reveals the glorious power of God always present and dwelling with humanity. He is the One who reconciles heaven and earth with mankind, and He is the King of Love who never imposes upon human freedom. There is no love greater than the love God has for all of humanity and the entire universe. Only the love of God is the most beautiful, the greatest, and the most absolute. That love is made manifest in the person of Jesus Christ.
Today’s Word of God reveals to humanity a glimpse of God’s divine glory through the heavenly proclamation: “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” This is the command of God to humanity from age to age, even until the end of time: to always listen to and live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. This is the Eternal and unchanging Word of God, which has the power to cast out Satan. It is the Word of power that nourishes the soul and grants eternal life to those who worship and honor God alone. The absolute love of God is revealed in the life of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came down from heaven to become human, died, and rose again to redeem humanity.
Today’s Word of God reveals to us a glimpse of the glory of God. Before reaching glory, He would have to go through suffering and a painful, humiliating death. Through this, He also shows us that in order to attain the glory of the Kingdom of Heaven, we too must pass through the suffering of the cross. We must undergo trials and pain. But those who persevere to the end will inherit the eternal Kingdom of Heaven. God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the angels, and the saints accompany us on this journey of suffering and also toward eternal glory.
Therefore, God calls everyone to place complete trust in Him, to keep our eyes fixed on the glory of the Kingdom to come, so that we may endure the hardships, difficulties, and trials of this earthly life. Whoever remains faithful and steadfast to the end will rejoice in the glory of Heaven with the God of Love.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
