EASTER SUNDAY THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD - THE MASS OF EASTER DAY- Luke 24:13-35
READING OF THE DAY
First reading from the Book of the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 10:34a, 37-43
Peter proceeded to speak and said:
“You know what has happened all over Judea,
beginning in Galilee after the baptism
that John preached,
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth
with the Holy Spirit and power.
He went about doing good
and healing all those oppressed by the devil,
for God was with him.
We are witnesses of all that he did
both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.
They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.
This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible,
not to all the people, but to us,
the witnesses chosen by God in advance,
who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
He commissioned us to preach to the people
and testify that he is the one appointed by God
as judge of the living and the dead.
To him all the prophets bear witness,
that everyone who believes in him
will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.”
Second reading from the letter to the Colossians
Col 3:1-4
Brothers and sisters:
If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.
For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ your life appears,
then you too will appear with him in glory.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to John
Jn 20:1-9
On the first day of the week,
Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.

THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
In God’s Word today, God continues to talk about the resurrection of Jesus Christ to his disciples, so that they can understand, have more faith, and remember all the Words that Jesus Christ taught them while He was still alive.
All of the words He has spoken were fulfilled in His own person, He had foretold: that He would go to Jerusalem to die, and after three days He would rise again. But the hearts of the disciples were still dark, until He was resurrected and appeared to them, then they believed. But besides that, their faith is still weak: when Jesus Christ was resurrected, appeared and accompanied the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, He pretended to be a visitor along the way and conversed with them. They thought that: Our teacher is dead, saw it as a loss, a failure in the world, so they were depressed, and were on their way back to their families. But the love of the resurrected Christ always accompanies, and stays with those whom God has chosen. He did not abandon His disciples when they were weak and disappointed. In particular, when talking with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, He showed mankind that: His love still is always accompanying along with all the disciples, with the children of God. He knows that humans are very weak and sinful, so He always accompanies and stays with humanity until the end of the world.
The resurrected Jesus Christ calls all disciples: to joyfully set out to preach the Gospel to all nations, so that all nations may enjoy the salvation of God. The early apostles believed in the word of God's teachings and put them into practice. They believed one important and only thing, that is: believe in Jesus Christ who died and was resurrected to save all humanity.
God's love is always with all the disciples; that is why it had helped the disciples overcome difficulties and challenges; helped them to believe absolutely in Jesus Christ who came to earth, died and was resurrected to save mankind, to destroy Satan and those who believe in Him will have eternal life.
God's Word today continues to call humanity:
- To run to the resurrected Jesus Christ, He will heal wounds, He will bear the sufferings, the sins of mankind and bring them to the cross to die instead. There is no love in this world as great as the love of God.
- Look at the image of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus who were always accompanied by God. Therefore today, God will also continue to accompany humanity when humanity listens to God's words and puts them into practice. Especially believing that He is the resurrection to save humanity. Without Jesus Christ's death and resurrection, mankind will always live in darkness, hatred and death.
Thus, the Word of God today calls all humanity:
- To live in the spirit of gratitude to God, thank Him for loving and sacrificing himself to save all humankind. The love He gives to humanity is part of God's plan of salvation.
- Return to God, believe in His teachings: to love God above all things and love others as yourself. Especially believe in a God who came down to earth to become human, died and was resurrected to save humanity. Believe in the words Jesus Christ preached, believe in the words of the apostles who lived next to God in the past.
- Listen to God's Word and put it into practice like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Thanks to the two men that listened, God opened their hearts and the two disciples received the light and grace of God the Father.
The Word of God today, God calls mankind:
- Do not live in sins and passions.
- Stand up and return to God, eliminate the sinful acts that Satan had interwoven. For the main purpose of Jesus Christ coming to earth to become human is to redeem all humanity from the captivity of Satan; and He conquered death, conquered Satan to redeem mankind through His death and resurrection.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
