“For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his native place.” (Jn 4:44)

FIRST READING - Is 65:17-21

"No longer shall the sound of weeping be heard there, or the sound of crying."

A reading from the Book of Isaiah

17 [a]See, I am creating new heavens

    and a new earth;

The former things shall not be remembered

    nor come to mind.

18 Instead, shout for joy and be glad forever

    in what I am creating.

Indeed, I am creating Jerusalem to be a joy

    and its people to be a delight;

19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem

    and exult in my people.

No longer shall the sound of weeping be heard there,

    or the sound of crying;

20 No longer shall there be in it

    an infant who lives but a few days,

    nor anyone who does not live a full lifetime;

One who dies at a hundred years shall be considered a youth,

    and one who falls short of a hundred shall be thought accursed.

21 They shall build houses and live in them,

    they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit;

GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Jn 4:43-54

"You may go; your son will live."

From the Gospel according to John

43 [a]After the two days, he left there for Galilee. 44 [b]For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his native place. 45 When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, since they had seen all he had done in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves had gone to the feast.

[c] 46 Then he returned to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. Now there was a royal official whose son was ill in Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, who was near death. 48 Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.” 49 The royal official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “You may go; your son will live.” The man believed what Jesus said to him and left. 51 While he was on his way back, his slaves met him and told him that his boy would live. 52 He asked them when he began to recover. They told him, “The fever left him yesterday, about one in the afternoon.” 53 The father realized that just at that time Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live,” and he and his whole household came to believe. 54 [Now] this was the second sign Jesus did when he came to Galilee from Judea.

4th MONDAY OF LENT - Gospel (John 4:43-54)

The Word of God for Everyone

Dear people of God

In today's Word of God, God the Father invites humanity to have absolute faith in Him.

For God the Father delights more in those with strong faith than in those who only seek to see signs and wonders to believe.

For a strong faith will triumph over all the temptations of Satan.

Looking at the figure of the royal official in today's Gospel, he possessed a strong faith in God the Father and Jesus Christ.

It was precisely because of the strong faith that he acted according to the command of Jesus Christ: “You may go; your son will live.”

This serves as a model for people today to emulate; therefore, when we pray, we must trust absolutely in the teachings of God the Father and put them into practice, and He will grant us all things.

God the Father is the One who directs all things, and He will bestow every blessing upon His children.

Whoever comes to petition God the Father with faith, He will always reward them with good things.

Therefore, when professing faith in God the Father as the Absolute One and as the God of Love, do not hesitate when petitioning, and do not doubt when coming to God the Father to pray for this or that.

God the Father does not want humanity to have a wavering faith; rather, He desires that we have an absolute trust in Him, so that Satan will be defeated and release his hold on our souls.

Today's Word of God calls upon all of humanity to run to God with absolute trust and to put that trust into practice; do not profess faith in God the Father only with our lips, without living it out.

That practice consists of:

- Whatever God the Father commands, do exactly as He says. Do not rebel against His Word, for He is the One who sees through all things within our very souls and bodies.

- Have absolute trust in God the Father, the One who is rich in mercy; He will bring about what is good, for He never brings evil upon our souls and bodies.

Therefore, when petitioning for anything with absolute faith, believe that God is the Providential One; He will direct and guide all things within our souls, as we journey through this earthly life toward our heavenly home.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
