FIRST READING - 1 Thess 5:1-6, 9-11
"Lord Jesus Christ died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him."
A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians
1 Concerning times and seasons, brothers, you have no need for anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. 3 When people are saying, “Peace and security,” then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief. 5 For all of you are children of the light[a] and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. 6 Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. 9 For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him.[a] 11 Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY - Lk 4:31-37
"I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"
✠From the Gospel according to Luke
31 [a]Jesus then went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee. He taught them on the sabbath, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching because he spoke with authority. 33 In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out in a loud voice, 34 “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us?[b] I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 35 Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet! Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down in front of them and came out of him without doing him any harm. 36 They were all amazed and said to one another, “What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” 37 And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.

22ND TUESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - Gospel (Luke 4:31-37)
THE WORD OF GOD FOR EVERYONE
Dear People of God,
The Word of God today tells all of humanity that the teachings of God are always noble, powerful, and most excellent. There is no teaching more sublime than the Word of God that instructs humanity. Whoever seeks wisdom should turn to the Word of God that has been inscribed in the Holy Scriptures.
God also wants to tell all of humanity that: Nowadays, there are many Satans, and they will not spare mankind. They will find every way to oppose and snatch human souls from the hands of God. For that reason, God came down to earth and became man to fight against Satan, to redeem mankind from countless sins. It is God Himself who is the One who conquers the demons of Satan and casts them out from the souls of humankind.
Today, human beings must remain vigilant at all times and in all places, because Satan is creeping into the souls of people to tempt them greatly. They also infiltrate the hearts of devout and holy individuals, seeking every way to snatch their souls from the hands of God.
The Word of God today calls everyone to:
Be aware of their sinful condition before God; seek refuge in Him.
Do not be arrogant or self-satisfied, thinking oneself to be wise and knowledgeable about all things in today’s world. Do not fall into the traps of the legions of Satan, for they do only evil and deceitful things. Nothing they do is good in the sight of God. What they bring to mankind is only falsehood and fleetingness. Only God, who is holy and full of authority, can cast Satan out of human beings.
Therefore, He invites all His children — those who are being imprisoned and bound by Satan in both soul and body due to sin — to come to God, to come to His Word, which is the only Word full of power and might that will cast Satan out of human beings.
As in today’s Gospel, the image of Jesus casting out a demon from a man possessed in the synagogue shows the power and authority of the Word of God, which compels Satan to submit and depart. Whoever believes in the power of God should come to Him; He will uphold and cast Satan out from the soul of each person.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
